Hydrochlorothiazide is a water pill.

Try to take the medication at the same time everyday to avoid missing a dose. If you have missed a dose and it is almost time for the next dose, then skip the missed one and continue with the regular dosage. Alternatively, if you remember immediately, then you may take the missed dose. Never double up to compensate for a missed dose.


Store Hydrochlorothiazide at room temperature in a cool and dark place. Keep away from children and pets.

Do not use Hydrochlorothiazide if:
You are allergic to any ingredient in it.
You are unable to urinate
Maintain caution while using Hydrochlorothiazide if:
You have kidney disease
You have an enlarged prostate
You have urination problems
You have cirrhosis or other liver disease
You have gout, lupus
You have diabetes
You have an allergy to sulfa drugs.
You are allergic to penicillin
Maintain caution if you use the following drugs:
lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid);
digoxin (Lanoxin);
cholestyramine (Prevalite, Questran) or colestipol (Colestid);
steroids (prednisone and others);
other blood pressure medications;
NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn, Naprelan, Treximet), celecoxib (Celebrex), diclofenac (Arthrotec, Cambia, Cataflam, Voltaren, Flector Patch, Pennsaid, Solareze), indomethacin (Indocin), meloxicam (Mobic), and others; or
insulin or oral diabetes medication
Please be informed:
Hydrochlorothiazide may make you get over heated or dehydrated. Alcohol, hot weather or fever may cause this to increase. To prevent this, it is recommended that you ask your healthcare provider about consuming fluids.
If you are using Hydrochlorothiazide for the treatment of blood pressure, then you may feel lethargic or tired for the first few weeks. Do not discontinue use even if this happens.
Diabetes patients - Check blood sugar levels closely.

Side Effects
Mild side effects are commonly experienced while using Hydrochlorothiazide. They do not need medical treatment and usually subside on their own. Some examples are diarrhea; mild stomach pain; constipation; or blurred vision.
If these side effects become bothersome or do not fade away after a while, then seek medical assistance.
Serious side effects that need immediate medical assistance are rare.
Some of them are eye pain, vision problems; dry mouth, thirst, nausea, vomiting; feeling weak, drowsy, restless, or light-headed; fast or uneven heartbeat; muscle pain or weakness; numbness or tingly feeling; a red, blistering, peeling skin rash; or nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
