Accutane reduces the oil secreted by the skin in severe acne. It also enhances the rate of skin renewal.




Usage

& Dosage



Please ask for precise dosage instructions to your healthcare provider.



Accutane is an antibiotic medication that needs to be taken for a stipulated period of time for it to be effective. Do not discontinue dosage suddenly without speaking to your doctor. Also, do not take the medication for a prolonged time period.



Try to take the medication at the same time everyday to avoid missing a dose. If you have missed a dose and it is almost time for the next dose, then skip the missed one and continue with the regular dosage. Alternatively, if you remember immediately, then you may take the missed dose. Never double up to compensate for a missed dose.




Storage



Store Accutane at room temperature in a cool and dark place. Keep away from children and pets.


Speak about your medical history to your healthcare provider.
Mention complete and accurate details about existing medical conditions, known allergies to food or drugs, dietary supplements, vitamins, minerals, herbal supplements or OTC medications that you may be using.
Do not use Accutane if:
You are allergic to it
You are pregnant because it is known to cause severe, life-threatening birth defects.
You are using other Vitamin A supplements
You are planning to have a baby
Maintain caution while using Accutane if:
A personal or family history of depression or mental illness
You have heart disease, high cholesterol or triglycerides;
You have osteoporosis or other bone disorders;
You have an intestinal disorder such as inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis, or Crohn's disease;
You have diabetes;
You have a breathing disorder like asthma;
You have an eating disorder (anorexia nervosa); or
You have liver disease.
Maintain caution if you use the following drugs:

Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), carbamazepine, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), or rifampin
Clarithromycin azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole), steroidal contraceptives (eg, desogestrel), or troleandomycin
Methotrexate or ritodrine
Hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), mifepristone, or live vaccines
Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) or aspirin
Please be informed:
Women must use at least two specific forms of birth control while using Accutane.
Regular pregnancy tests must be carried out before using, while using and after using accutane to prevent the risk of a pregnancy.
Even if you have had your tubes tied, you must use birth control medications while using Accutane.
Never use it if you are pregnant.
Accutane may cause scarring if you use wax hair removers or have dermabrasion or laser skin treatments. Avoid it for at least 6 months after you stop using Accutane.
Accutane may also make your skin more sensitive to sunlight exposure and may cause sunburn. Do not venture into the sun or use tanning booths.

Side Effects
Mild side effects are commonly experienced while using Accutane. They do not need medical treatment and usually subside on their own. Some examples are joint pain, back pain; feeling dizzy, drowsy, or nervous; dryness of the lips, mouth, nose, or skin; or cracking or peeling skin, itching, rash, changes in your fingernails or toenails.
If these side effects become bothersome or do not fade away after a while, then seek medical assistance.
Serious side effects that need immediate medical assistance are rare.
Some of them are depressed mood, trouble concentrating, sleep problems, crying spells, aggression or agitation, changes in behavior, hallucinations, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body; blurred vision, sudden and severe headache or pain behind your eyes, sometimes with vomiting; hearing problems, hearing loss, or ringing in your ears; seizure (convulsions); severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate; loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); severe diarrhea, rectal bleeding, black, bloody, or tarry stools; fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, purple spots under your skin, easy bruising or bleeding; severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; or joint stiffness, bone pain or fracture.
